What is henna?

Henna is a temporary, natural dye used on skin and hair made from the dried, crushed leaves of the henna plant - scientific name: Lawsonia Inermis.  Its use dates back thousands of years throughout the history of many cultures and people around the world. Henna on the skin today is used for many uses ranging from the upholding of traditions to special occasions and to artistic expression.

How long do I leave it on for?

4-6+ hours, the longer the better. We recommend overnight for the best results!

How long does a henna tattoo last?

About 1-2 weeks but it varies from person to person, the placement, and how often that area is washed or exfoliated.

Can henna be used on children and/or pregnant women?

Yes, but with a few special instructions. The lavender essential oil has been deemed the safest to use during pregnancies. Please let us know if you are pregnant, so we can adjust our paste accordingly. For children, we recommend children above 6, and please keep any allergies or sensitivities in mind.

Will this work the same for everyone? Will this work on dark skin?

Yes! Think of henna as a transparent dye, not an opaque dye. It adds color to the already existing color of your skin. The best way to see what we mean is via our Instagram highlights called stains

Once applied how do I care for my henna?

Here is our recommended aftercare routine:

WAIT: Henna will dry to the touch in 15-20 min. Keep the paste on for 4-6+ hours; the longer the better.

PEEL: Remove the henna by peeling or scraping gently with a card. Use oil to soften stubborn bits and wipe dry with a paper towel. Do not use water!

AVOID: Avoid water and other harsh chemicals for 12- 24 hours. Wear gloves while showering.

MOISTURIZE: Apply oil or UB Henna & Co's Henna Balm to the stain often and before water contact.

SHARE: Show off your henna and tag @ubhennaco! We love to see your results!
